A strong
social
drive is the best barrier against aggression. Children who
live with dogs will occasionally step on a paw. Truly social dogs will not
perceive this as
an attack and will not respond with aggression. Qualified shelters and rescue
groups can perform assessments that will show how strong a dog's social drive
is.
This information is very valuable. Before adopting any dog, be sure to ask about
what testing was performed and what the results may indicate about the dog.
By teaching
children the best ways to interact with dogs, we empower them.
